This hand-printed and hand-stitched penny rug wall hanging is centered on a sacred motif: the Tree of Life, a symbol deeply rooted in both faith and simplicity.

The tree image is block printed onto cotton and surrounded by meticulously stitched “pennies” —a nod to traditional folk art and the Shaker value of careful, deliberate craftsmanship.

Each element of this piece was created with intention. I designed it while reflecting on my experience living in community at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in Maine. There, i was deeply moved by the Shaker devotion to harmony, humility, and beauty in the everyday. That spirit is stitched into this work-quiet, orderly, and made with love.
