Locust bean (Daddawa)

Locust beans powder also called Daddawa in Hausa language, is a traditional African seasoning made from fermented African locust beans, valued for its rich, savoury, umami flavour, and strong aroma. It adds depth and complexity to stews, soups and sauces, and local dishes like egusi, ogbono, babobab soup, okro soup and tuwo-based meals. Naturally nutrient-dense, daddawa is a good source of protein, healthy fats, calcium, and iron, making it both a flavour enhancer and a nourishing ingredient in everyday cooking.
